Keith 's Story

September 4th, 2010

I joined the Radical Experiment about 2 days ago. I am currently deployed with the Air Force and heard about the book, “Radical”, from my wife on Aug 30th. I logged on to Amazon.com and to my surprise was able to read almost 70 pages of in the preview section. God used this book and basically (with no other way to describe it) ripped my eyes open to the world around me. I grew up in church and my wife and I still attend and pay our tithe, but I have neglected the relationship He commands of us. I also realized that there are people in this world in search and in need and I had 3 flat screen TVs. All of the sudden I felt very sick at the way I had been living my life. Living in the pursuit of the "American Dream." Living to lift myself up!! So about 6 days ago my wife and I (over the phone) decided to start selling our worthless possessions. In the last 5 days we sold the following: 2 TVs, an iPhone, a computer, a TV stand, some curtains and our new car. We also made a commitment to start the adoption process when I get home and hopefully add to the the 4 boys God has already blessed us with. The new car we sold was a Chevy Traverse that we bought new 5 months ago, and I just knew we were going to take at least a $5,000 hit on it. I have been upside down on every vehicle I have ever owned. When my wife took the car into the dealership to see what the damage would be (I am deployed and can't be there for this), we weren't surprised to hear them quote a price about 6k less that what we owed on the car. After speaking with her on the phone and with a pit in my stomach we decided that she should try another dealership and get several quotes before we moved forward. There was no doubt in our minds, however, that this was ultimately the right decision. As she began to walk away from the dealership the sales manager chased her down and said "Wait, wait... My boss just told me he wants to buy that car for his wife." The new offer was $800 more than what we currently owed and almost $7000 over the price they had given us not 15 minutes before. We couldn't believe it. This was unreal. God Moved in this situation and I fully believe it was simply because we stepped out in the Faith that comes only from Him. My Wife an I thank God for the believers at The Church at Brook Hills. I hope to visit some day. Please continue to keep our troops in your prayers. Keith
